32. Alfred-Alexandre Delauney (1830-1894) Fruit Tree with Birds
Pencil on wove paper, 207 x 128mm.
A partially finished sketch showing a small tree laden with fruit, a thistle plant growing next to it and a group of birds flying towards the tree. Most of the drawing is highly worked, the lowest part and the farthest birds sketchy. Signed with the initial D. Although he painted, Delauney is primarily known as an etcher and his prints were exhibited at the Paris salon from 1866 through 1890. The Bibliothèque National has a large collection of them. This sheet may be a preliminary drawing for an etching.
