Les Derniers Beaux Jours

Lithograph, 1853, Béraldi N.D., Bibliothèque National Inventaire 69, No. 73, 147 x 218 mm. Fine impression on chine-appliqué with large margins, as published in Les Artistes Anciens et Modernes. Ostensibly a member of the Barbizon school, and a student of Corot, Français tended toward a more romantic presentation than most of his colleagues. Certainly there is hardly a more touching graphic representation of the last beautiful fall days than this little lithograph, and if one tends to focus more on the people enjoying it than nature itself, that bit of sentimentality is hardly impermissible.
