Etching and aquatint, 1878 (?), 180 x 248 mm., Bourcard/Goodfriend 25 iii/iv. Provenance: DHHF (unidentified). A very fine proof impression, inscribed "État intermédiaire" in the artist's hand, printed in dark blue on very thick wove paper with full margins, and with the large owl stamp in red. This is the impression illustrated in the Catalogue Descriptif. Jean Penicaud II was one of a family of enamel painters working in Limoges in the sixteenth century. This particular enamel is or was in the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Paris.
