Castellon: Waiting Women

Waiting Women

Lithograph, 1950, 225 x 302 mm., Library of Congress 12. A fine impression on wove paper with good margins, signed in pencil, as published by the Society of Print Connoisseurs and with their blind stamp in the lower margin. Castellon was born in Almeria, Spain, came to the United States as a child in 1921 and received his American citizenship in 1943. Painter, sculptor, illustrator, print maker and teacher he worked in a Surrealist style, reputedly influenced by Salvador Dali, but tempered at times (as here) by a large dash of American plain-speak.
