Lithograph, 1898, Lotz-Brissonneau 308 only state, 269 x 272 mm. Fine impression on laid paper with full margins, signed in pencil and numbered from the edition of 35; edges of the sheet browned not affecting the image. In the large lower margin, a collector has pasted three Lepère woodcut illustrations from Scribner’s Magazine, including the self portrait of 1895. The Île de Grenelle is a man-made island in the Seine, west of the Eiffel Tower. Long and narrow, it was obviously a place for fishing, relaxing and strolling under the trees, the sort of simple pleasures of life that Lepère delighted in depicting.
