Lozowick: The White Spider

The White Spider

Lithograph, 1952, 279 x 236 mm., Flint 236. Fine impression on white wove paper with full margins, signed and dated in pencil and numbered from the small edition of 20. The industrial image, presumably drawn from the petrochemical industry, shows a large retort-like device, resembling a spider in its multiple tube extensions, set against other, grey tanks and tubes. A wan, leafy plant is at the lower left and at the upper left, a hanging hand sign pointing toward the spider and incorporating in the cuff Lozowick's monogram. Thus, a natural element, an artificial element and a major element that seems to incorporate qualities drawn from both nature and industry. A very effective image and rare; we have not seen another for sale in years.
