Other Images:

Etching, 102 x 78 mm., Bartsch 15. Fine impression, printed with plate tone, on laid paper with thread margins and inky plate edges and an extra dollop of ink at the lower right corner. No one has yet come up with an identification for the anonymous etcher who signed his works FP. All his etchings, twenty-six of them, are after Parmigianino, though only one, possibly two, seem to be copied from etchings by that master, and the FP may simply stand for Francesco Parmigianino – leaving the etcher’s identity even more obscure. While not as rare as Parmigianino etchings, these works after drawings by him are scarce enough.

Provenance:
H. Scholz (not in Lugt). Matching the obscurity of the etcher, the collector whose small red stamp appears on the reverse of this print appears to be totally unknown. We would guess him to be a Swiss, or perhaps German, collector of the late nineteenth or early twentieth century.
