La Passerelle
Etching, and drypoint, 124 x 194 mm., Bliss 620 ii/vi (?), Wright viii/viii (?), edition 25.. Fine, delicate impression on old laid paper with a slightly greenish cast, signed in pencil. The difficulty in determining states with Legros's prints lies in the fact that the Bliss catalog offers no descriptions of states. One must rely frequently on pencil notes
on the impressions themselves, some of which were made by or at the advice of Harold Wright, who found many additional states. Avoiding strong contrasts, Legros plays with variations of grey here, producing something of a fairytale quality that seems typical of many of his late prints.
