The
Etching, 1921, 252 x 301 mm., Cortissoz 174 only state. A very fine, rich impression on thick wove paper with small margins, signed in pencil with the cipher and the word "imp." Quite apart from the interest of the subject matter, Hassam's pattern of dappled light and shade represents the best in American impressionist printmaking. The scene shown is the boyhood home of John Howard Paine and the inspiration for his lyric "Home, Sweet Home," which, oddly, was first sung in London in 1823.
