Jacque, Frontispiece Design

Frontispiece Design for Jules Janin's "L' Éte à Paris"

Pencil, ca. 1842, 202 x 138 mm. Jacque's drawing was wood-engraved, in reverse, by Timm for the frontispiece of the book, published by L. Curmer, Paris, 1843. The book contained many text wood engravings plus hors texte engravings by J.B. Allen after Eugène Lami. A photo copy of the wood engraving accompanies the drawing. It is unusual to find original Jacque drawings for projects such as this.
