Renouard: Le Fond de la Loge

Le Fond de la Loge des Comparses

Etching, 1881, from Le Nouvel Opéra, 270 x 215 mm., Béraldi X, p. 188. Renouard’s scenes of the new (in 1881) Paris opera house included many rarely pictured locations in that structure – even including the roof. Here he turns his attention to the back of the low-ceilinged dressing room of the supernumeraries, who are being fitted with suits of armor for Lord-only-knows what theatrical production. A very fine impression from the deluxe edition of 20 on thick japan paper with full margins, signed with initials and numbered in pencil and also inscribed with the title.
