Figure on the Stairs
Monotype in black-brown, 202 x 144 mm. Fine, unique impression of this dark, mysterious image on thick wove paper, slightly rounded at the corners, typically unsigned but clearly Higgins' work. The image shows the windowed side of a house or cottage with some light reflected from it. A woman with head down and shoulders forward, apparently carrying heavy things, climbs the dark stairs next to the house. In the distance, a bit of another house. So one describes the print, but it does not get us far into this typically enigmatic image of a presently neglected artist who clearly had something individual to say.
