Woodcut,1897, from Kleine Holzschnitte (No. 17), 60 x 100 mm., Glöckner catalog 54; Orlik Austellung, Stuttgart, 1963 – 1; Berlin, 1965 – 73; E.O. Osborn, 1920 - S-20. Orlik, though he spent most of his career in Germany and travelled as far as Japan, where he studied Japanese woodcut technique, was born in Prague, the son of a tailor. His range of subjects and styles was vast, but among them were sympathetic scenes of his native land, both straightforward and evocative. He was also an esteemed portraitist and, in Berlin, the teacher of Georg Grosz.
