Le Hameau Près du Lac

Etching and drypoint, Bliss 622 vi/vi, 118 x 159 mm. Very fine impression with plate tone on laid paper with large margins, signed in pencil from the edition of 60. Legros’ late etchings and drypoints are a world away from his earlier, grittier work and have an airy delicacy that turns unremarkable country views into fairytale landscapes. Although French born, he spent most of his career in England, where he was Slade Professor of Art at University College, London for many years. A prolific printmaker, his works were widely collected for years – but now not. A beautiful print, and we have others by him.
