Cameron: Arran Peaks

Arran Peaks

Etching and drypoint, 1912, 247 x 350 mm., Rinder 436 v or vi/vi. Arran is an island in the Firth of Clyde, off the southwest coast of Scotland. Remarks on the previous print go double here. Few prints have depicted so desolate a landscape and one would be tempted to identify the image as a moonscape ahead of its time but for the clear presence of the moon here just above one of the peaks. This is Cameron at his most dour, a startling image of a scene in which man has no part. Fine impression on an irregularly torn sheet of old laid paper with full margins, signed in pencil.
