La Petite Mulatresse

Etching and engraving, 1911, 228 x 188 mm., Ginested & Pouillon E 263. A very fine impression, with even plate tone, on laid paper with small margins, signed in pencil from the edition of thirty; very pale discoloration of the paper in the area of the old mat opening. This is one of a small group of prints Villon did from the same model, a girl named Reneé (who was not a mulatto), all of which are considered major works in his graphic output. Villon's etchings and drypoints of 1911-1914 are among the finest and most important graphic works of the cubist movement.
