Auditus

Etching and engraving, 225 x 297 mm., Wurzbach (as after CdW) 3, The Illustrated Bartsch Vol. VI (Commentary) 18. The plate comes from a set of the five senses but the other four are by an anonymous etcher, not J. B. de Wael. Superb impression of this rare and beautiful print, apparently superior to the one illustrated in TIB, on laid paper, trimmed on the platemark which is visible in places; a tiny nick at the upper left corner. The instruments include lute, violin, cornetto, bass viol da gamba and the rare colascione, a European offshoot of the Eastern long-necked lute.
