Arabes d’Oran

Etching, 1833, 175 x 214 mm., Delteil 20 v/vi. Fine impression, with plate tone, on chine-appliqué with very large margins and in fresh condition, as published by Cadart & Luquet. Delacroix traveled to North Africa in 1832, ostensibly as part of a diplomatic mission to Morocco, but personally in search of the exotic. He found much to interest him and North African subjects, both Arabic and Judaic, as well as the animals he saw, informed his paintings, drawings and prints for decades afterwards. Oran is a city and province in Algeria.
