Titre pour "Les Graveurs du XIXe Siécle" (Livre et Canard) (Title Page for "Les Graveurs du XIXe Siécle" Book and Duck)
Etching and drypoint, 1886, 192 x 132 mm., Béraldi 794 iii/iv, B. N. Inv. 418.
Very fine impression on imperial japan with small but probably full margins, signed with initial in brown ink from the edition of 100. Béraldi commissioned title pages for each volume of his massive survey of nineteenth-century printmaking from many of the outstanding etchers of his time, but Bracquemond's was clearly the outstanding contribution. This edition of 100 preceded the book publication of the images and the impressions are superior to the latter as well as being hand signed. The squawking duck carrying a volume in his talons is very nearly the prototypical Bracquemond image.
