Finale of Wagner’s “Götterdämerung”

Lithograph, 1892, 444 x 300 mm., Hédiard 100, ex collection: Alfred Beurdeley (Lugt 421). Very fine impression on chine volant with large margins, signed in pencil; laid down to board. This is one of Fantin’s largest and most beautiful Wagnerian evocations, representing the ring being returned to the Rhine Maidens at the end of the opera. The total edition was twenty-five plus seven or eight trial proofs. Pencil signed impressions of Fantin lithographs are scarce and desirable, and the provenance of this one is about as good as it gets.
