Two Pigeons
Original drawing in black and red chalk with grey wash, 148 x 207 mm., ex collection: Adolf Henschel (Lugt 1256); possibly Prince of Liechtenstein, according to previous owner. There are very few authenticated drawings by Fyt in existence and while the attribution is old, one should take it as indicating a drawing by someone in Fyt’s circle and possibly by him. Fyt, who was a student of Frans Snyders, was a renowned animal painter. The drawing is on an apparently seventeenth-century laid paper showing the bottom initials PR of a watermark (foolscap?).
