Woodcut, ca. 1920?, 146 x 589 mm. Bormann was born in Austria and studied at the Vienna Academy, producing her first woodcuts in 1917. Throughout her later life she was something of a world traveler and produced woodcut images, both color and black-and-white, of subjects in Germany, Italy, Dalmatia, Turkey and later in the United States, China and Japan. The unusual format of this print cleverly encapsulates the whole range of the theater and the experience of theater-going. It is the most fascinating print by her we have ever come across. A fine impression on thin, tan japan paper with full margins, signed and titled in pencil.
