Campo Santa Margarita, Venice

Monotype in colors, 255 x 230 mm. An unusual and strikingly effective effort from Webster, who is known for meticulously detailed etchings and considerably freer watercolors. This is the only monotype we have seen by Webster and it marks a sort of mid-point between the etchings and the watercolors, being complex but unfussy in detail. Printed on a sheet of fine laid japan paper with margins, signed in pencil in the image, titled and annotated “monotype” in the lower margin.
