La Teste et la Qüeue

La Teste et la Qüeue du Serpent (The Head and the Tail of the Serpent) from the Fables of La Fontaine

Etching, drypoint and aquatint, 1886, ca. 370 x 240 mm., Béraldi 801 vii/vii, B. N. Inv. 424. Superb impression of the final state, with the publication line and blind stamp, on vellum with good margins and signed in pencil; some creasing and rippling in the margins, the natural concomitant of printing on vellum, which also does not clearly show the platemark. Moreau's vision of Hell, brilliantly reproduced by Bracquemond.
