Venice
Etching and roulette, 1887, Klackner 57, Gilcrease Institute 64 iv/iv, 560 x 785 mm. A fine, detailed and effective impression on tan simili-japon, trimmed just inside the platemark, but with wide blank plate margins and the complete etched remarque of an ancient galleon in Venice harbor in the lower margin, signed in pencil by both Moran and Bunner. Moran fully exercises his taste for the sublime in this monumental etching, with the Dogana and the Salute, at the mouth of the Grand Canal, flooded with light behind the black sails of the boats in the foreground and the magical city rising from the waters like some celestial vision. Rare and beautiful.
