La Modiste, Renée Vert

Lithograph, in two colors, 1893, 455 x 292 Delteil 13, Adhèmar 17, Wittrock 4 i/ii. Fine impression of the rare first state, first edition, before the erasure of the menu, in olive green and grey- beige, on chine volant, the full sheet. The work was used as a menu by the Société des Indépendants, 23 June, 1893. Later on, the menu was erased and the image alone issued in various editions. Wittrock mentions this printing as "rare," noting only six impressions in public collections. Renée Vert, a milliner and fashion designer, and her husband, the painter Joseph Albert, were close friends of Lautrec from about 1885 to the latter’s death.
