Boaters on a Lake
Original drawing in watercolor and gouache, 370 x 350 mm. Finished watercolor, with touches of white gouache, on wove paper, signed in ink. A landscape painter, Soeterik was born and died in Utrecht. While his is a known name, it is hardly a very well known one. He is one of many Dutch painters, draughtsmen and print makers who continued a tradition, with skill and imagination, not aping the past but not really changing the course of artistic development in any real way. His work, like that of many others, may not be historically important, but it is accomplished –and enjoyable on its own terms.
