The Dancing Lesson

Mezzotint printed in blue, 395 x 301 mm. Fine impression on laid paper wth large margins. The painting, Lezione di Ballo, ca. 1741, is in the Accademia, Venice. Although one is used to engraved depictions of violinists as left handed (due to reversal of the image on the plate), Kilian took the trouble to make his print in the same direction as the original painting, but reversed only the figure of the violinist - who is again left handed. The text below is in both Italian and German, reflecting not only the nationalities of the two artists involved, but the potential audiences for the print.
