Procaccini, Head of a Soldier

Head of a Soldier in a Plumed Helmet

Red chalk on laid paper, 221 x 177 mm. Splendidly virile drawing, drum-mounted on a bordered mount. Ercole, who came from a large family of artists working in Milan, several of them of considerable renown, was primarily a painter of historical subjects. The attribution to him here seems secure; comparable drawings are in many museums.
