Head of Hercules in the Lion Skin

Black chalk and touches of white on brown laid paper, 157 x 120 mm. Handsome, delicate sketch. The head, seen in profile, clearly shows the lion's head covering with the skin draping over the shoulders. An attribution to someone like Michel Dorigny (1617-1665) would not be impossible, but so many French 17th-century artists worked in this medium and on this sort of paper and with this kind of subject that the drawing can not, at this time, be firmly identified.
