Self-Portrait at the Easel

Lithograph, 1896-97, Leymarie 7, Melot 7, Johnson 24, 325 x 280 mm. A fine impression in black ink from the first printing, by Clot, of 300 impressions (there was a second printing of 200 in grey ink), on MBM laid paper with full, large margins. This is one of only four original lithographs by Cezanne and, though apparently printed before 1900 for the projected but unpublished Album d’Estampes de la Galerie Vollard, 1898, it was not actually issued by Vollard until 1914. Interestingly, it was apparently the only print for that ill-fated album that was printed in more than 100 impressions; Vollard must have been convinced it would be popular.
