Nude Woman in Profile to the Left, Sitting on a Bench

Engraving, ca. 1540(?), Hollstein 32, Passavant IV-285-210, 94 x 62 mm., ex collections: Freiherr von Lanna (Lugt 2773), Alexander Danz (L. 103). Fine impression on laid paper with small margins all around; the tip of the upper left corner a bit ragged. The print is exceedingly rare, Hollstein mentioning only 2 museum impressions and two sold at auction. The image is strikingly modern (one thinks of some Manet paintings and etchings) as there is no apparent allegorical intent nor any topographical context, but merely a picture of a nude woman on a bench against a shaded wall.
