The Musicians

Woodcut, Bartsch 4 (as After Goltzius), Wurzbach 20, Kinsky (History of Music in Pictures) 93-3, 308 x 217 mm. An unusually fine impression with the heavy, outer borderline present (frequently missing) on laid paper with narrow margins; a horizontal printer's crease and some old mounting paper along the left edge verso, otherwise in fresh condition. The image shows a young man, in fancy dress, playing a psaltery (salterio), accompanying four singers. The work is apparently after a lost drawing by Goltzius dating from the 1590s.
