Description: Rapid but finished figural and compositional sketch in black chalk and rown wash on laid paper, signed or inscribed Lanfranchi at the upper left. Verso, some rough black chalk drapery studies. The monk is seated, leaning back in an arm chair, his hands on an open book on his lap. Lanfranchi was born in Bergamo where he worked from about 1687 to 1700. After that date he worked in Venice where he died in 1730. The subject of the drawing may actually be saint or evangelist (John?), but no attribute is present apart from the book.
