Description: A beautifully-drawn, full-length study of an older man sitting on a stool playing the guitar. Few of Berat's prints are catalogued anywhere and there is no listing of this one, but the features of the man are similar enough to those of the composer Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1869) to make one believe that this is a portrait of him in his late years. The respective dates of composer and artist certainly allow for the possibility and since Berat worked in Rouen, not all that far from Paris where Rossini resided, the possibility is enhanced. The lithograph, which interestingly seems to have been drawn partially with the aid of a roulette, is printed in sanguine on thin, brown wove paper laid down to another sheet. There is no signature in the stone but the sheet is inscribed with the artist's name in pencil. Music catalog #391.
