Description: |
Occupying the greater part of a sketch sheet, a mid-century social grouping, including dog, attends to the keyboard performance of an exceedingly fat man who is seen from the rear.
The title is inscribed at the left, and a mordant-looking man, half in, half out of the grouping may represent the artist himself. Carotobisco is the pseudonym of an exceedingly talented French or Italian mid-nineteenth century artist whose real name has so far resisted detection. While the sheet is unsigned, it comes from a sketchbook containing other, signed pieces of similar quality. On wove paper without watermark (or any other clue). Music catalog # 609. |
