Description: |
Fine impression with fine hand coloring (as issued), the coloring virtually obscuring the engraved lines, on Whatman wove paper watermarked 1867; light foxing. Flora Danica, published in 16 volumes in Copenhagen from 1761 to 1871 was a massive compilation of the plant life of Denmark. The plates are notable for their accuracy and, while beautifully done, are more scientific than decorative. The shrub here, its parts shown in numerous details, has not been identified. |
