Description: |
Well worked-out compositional drawing in pen and brown ink and grey wash (the architectural background is done entirely in wash) on laid paper laid down to an old mount; the sheet is lightly foxed. The subject, which would seem to be Judeo-Christian, is difficult to pin down. A standing king points to a statue or idol; an elderly man and a woman raise their hands in denial. A crowd is assembled around them. |
