Description: |
Fine impression on laid paper with good margins. De Bry's engraving is probably after the portrait by Raphael Sadeler, ca. 1594, showing the subject at age 73. Philip de Monte (1521-1603) was Imperial Chapel Master under Maximilian II and Rudolf II and an outstanding composer of a capella music. He wrote 38 masses and over 300 motets and madrigas. The oval portrait is set in one of de Bry's typical strapwork and floral ornamental borders. Music C. #80. |
