Description: |
Fine, clear impression printed from the original block in 1922 and stamped verso "Sammlung Derschau, 1922," on laid paper with good margins. Baron von Derschau (? - 1824) spent a good part of his life in collecting the original wood blocks of German old masters. He reprinted many himself and in 1922 a collection was issued in four volumes with text by Max J. Friedlander, from which this impression derives.
Early impressions of woodcuts by Traut are exceedingly rare. In this case, the block was preserved in remarkably good condition and the impression, though late, is faithful to the artist's intention. |
