Impressionist or tonalist watercolor, presumably California school, on textured wove paper and signed with the monogram C encircling W. The work, of little detail but subtle and effective washes of color blending into one another, shows a valley with distant mountains and a high sky with clouds. A pencil note on the back gives a framer's number and the name Mills or Wills which may be the artist's name. We have so far been unable to discover an American watercolorist named Wills. |
