Fine impression on white wove paper with full margins; minor dust, soft creases and pale foxing near some edges of the sheet. The work is apparently rare, V & G mentioning only a few impressions of both the first and second states. Barbey-d'Aurevilly (1811-1891) was the Normandy-born author of such decadent books as Les Diabolique, Un Prêtre Marié, Une Vieille Maitresse and L'Ensorcelée, the last two of which were illustrated by Félix Buhot.
