Interesting, complete drawing, entirely in line, on thin laid paper laid down to another sheet of laid paper with a drawn borderline, two small holes in the image. Certain details of the drawing, in particular the nose and mouth of Susannah, resemble the cited signed drawing by Jakob Walther (?-1604) although the current sheet would seem to be slightly later and less obviously manneristic. Susannah is shown seated on the edge of a fountain beneath a tree, the elders are on either side of her, a small putti-like figure, which may be part of the fountain is present and small grotesque decorations are present. The sheet appears to be of the Dresden school but it is related to or after a known drawing by Friedrich Sustris |
