Description: |
Fine impression on laid paper with part of an eagle watermark, narrow margins at left and bottom, trimmed on the platemark elsewhere; minor edge nicks, vertical printer's crease(no loss of ink) and a few spots of pale
foxing. This is one of the prints in the group showing the festivities at the wedding of Duke Johann Friedrich of Wurttemberg (1582-1628) and Barbara Sophie of Brandenbrug (1584-1636). These were the two leading Protestant houses in Germany in the decade before the 30 Years War. Andresen gives a full list of the plates but without descriptions, so the identification here as Turkish riders is not certain. |
