Completed sketch in rather an unusual medium for Laboureur, on laid paper mounted to board, signed in crayon at the lower left and inscribed with the title and year verso on the board. The work is actually a preliminary drawing, in the same direction, for the etching of the same title and year, Loyer 448. There are clear differences between the two, but the basic conception is the same. The etching exists in 42 impressions over 3 states. The location is in the La Brière section of Brittany, an area of numerous marshes. |
