Description: |
Fine impression printed with retroussage, particularly in the water, on laid paper with good margins, signed in pencil. A European scene, probably in France. A river bordered by trees and shrubbery occupies the foreground.
Behind it is a long wall with church buildings visible over the top. A cow grazes in front of the wall and, half hidden in the foliage, a man is seated, fishing in the river. The etching is very influenced by Rembrandt landscapes in which details are not highlighted but incorporated into the overall pattern of the work, to be discovered slowly |
