| Description: |
Fine impression on tan wove paper with good margins, signed and dated in pencil. Hagemann was born and studied in Germany but between 1926 and 1939 he made yearly trips to Sweden, Norway, Finland and particularly Lapland, where he both painted and made prints of the locales. There is a 1981 book on him -- Gustav Hagemann, Der Maler des Nordens -- and his works were popular in both Germany and Scandinavia. His early prints were done in small editions and were apparently printed by Felsing, whose signature appears on some impressions. |
