Finished sketch on blue laid paper with ink framing lines. De Vlieger made many drawings in this medium. A possible alternative attribution is to Herman Saftleven, whose looped drawing of tree foliage is replicated in this drawing, but we have never found a Saftleven drawing on blue paper as here. The colored paper produces a quite effective night scene.
