Wall Street, New York
Lithograph, 1931, 483 x 254 mm. Very fine impression on chine-appliqué with very large margins, signed in pencil and noted from an edition of 20. Born was an eminent American architect and architectural historian who made a series of New York scene lithographs in 1930-31, his only original prints and issued in editions of 20 or less. The solidity of the architectural drawing would be expected from an architect, but the spontaneity and freedom of the draughtsmanship and the liveliness of the figures on the street are unusual and admirable. A few other New York lithographs by Born are also available.
