- PRINTS AND DRAWINGS OF MUSICAL INTEREST
Ludwig van Beethoven in Erlengebüsch bei Wien
Aquatint, 1834, 200 x 170 mm., Appenzeller 1098. A very fine impression on white wove paper showing the platemark in places and with ample white space around the image. The print is meant to evoke Beethoven at the time of the Pastoral Symphony (1807-08) and is presumably based on an earlier model. Hegi was born and worked in Switzerland and is best known for his pictorial views. He was clearly a great master of the difficult technique of aquatint.
